Karen Koyama

Karen’s love for art and creative work came from his father taking her to museums. She is fascinated by the opportunity of expressing emotions with a visual language. During the COVID pandemic, Karen was in high school, but she kept drawing and experimenting with different styles of illustration. It was during this time that she began comprehending the power of concept and expressing people’s emotions through art. Karen is currently pursuing her BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Graphic Design at Baylor University, where she is passionate about learning and applying conceptual strategies in advertising and graphic design. She is always trying to find new ways to express herself with a strong visual language, as when she was seven years old.

From Dancer to Leader

Karen’s journey with Yosakoi began in Las Vegas, where joining a team became a defining experience that shaped my approach to creativity and leadership. Inspired by this, Karen founded and now leads a Yosakoi team at my university, expanding its presence beyond campus while directing performances and building a collaborative creative community.
